A Canadian Premiere
for the Legal Profession
Montreal, Monday, April 25, 1994 - On June 1st, law offices in Canada will
no longer envy Europeans. By then, in fact, Polyacte, a legal text generation
system, launched in Europe in 1989, will have been adapted to the Canadian legal
system. Law offices will be able to benefit from a computer program capable
of generating the tons of documents required by companies operating under the
Canada Business Corporations Act. Polyacte will run in both official languages.
The program, originally developed by CAE/Légisoft, is used today by more than
1,500 law offices in France alone.
The Canadian launching of the product will take place on April 30th at the Technology
for Lawyers '94 conference in Toronto. Mr. John Chandioux, well-known linguist
and author of the Canadian version, will demonstrate Polyacte Canada. John Chandioux
is better known for his work in the field of machine translation, and more specifically
for the METEO ® system. The development of the Canadian version of Polyacte
was made possible through the collaboration of the Canadian Language Technology
Institute and the law offices of Desjardins Ducharme Stein and Monast.
Polyacte Canada is published by EDIT inc. whose reputation for quality products
is largely based on its GramR ® line -- GramR Juridique and GramR
- Le Conjugueur with more than 200,000 copies distributed world-wide. Moreover,
the GramR spelling and grammar-checking technology has been integrated
in the products of three companies: Graphic Arts Solutions, an IBM partner,
InContext Corporation, distributed throughout the world by Xerox, and WinWay
Corporation. EDIT is the only software publisher in Quebec specializing in linguistic
applications.
